The client funded a social impact project to document, preserve, and promote cultural differences in the Bay Islands, Honduras. The logo had to be on brand and visually connected to the parent company while also reflecting and connecting the diverse community.

Keywords: proud, happy, connected

Approaching the challenge

In order to come up with the right solution, I had numerous interviews and meetings between the on-the-ground project leader, who understood the local climate and people. I researched the history, explored the economy, and absorbed the culture of the Bay Islands in order to better understand the project and community.

Understanding the user

The diverse community of the Bay Islands includes Garifuna, African Creole, Afro Antillian, and European peoples. In order to connect these peoples, the logo had to be professional, inclusive, relatable and inspire pride in the the Bay Islands as a whole. Sketches explored different ways to link these peoples.

Solution

By asking the right questions to the leaders of the project, I was able to develop a logo that was meaningful to the parent company, the on-the-ground project leader and the community. The special species of crab in the logo is unique to the region and connects the diverse peoples of the islands. It represents both a food source and an economic source that is integral for the communities there.
